South Asia is one of the world's most dynamic and strategically important regions, home to nearly one-quarter of the global population and serving as a critical nexus of economic growth, geopolitical competition, maritime security, and regional connectivity. The region comprises Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. As South Asia continues to play an increasingly influential role in the Indo-Pacific and Eurasian geopolitical landscape, developments across the region have far-reaching implications for international security, trade, energy, technology, and regional integration.
The South Asia section of the Caspian-Pacific Policy Institute (CASPAC) provides a comprehensive analysis of the political, economic, security, and strategic developments shaping the region. Our research examines regional diplomacy, great-power competition, economic integration, infrastructure connectivity, maritime affairs in the Indian Ocean, counterterrorism, climate security, digital transformation, and emerging technologies. Particular attention is given to South Asia's growing interactions with Central Asia, the South Caucasus, East Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia, and the broader Indo-Pacific, highlighting opportunities for regional cooperation and evolving geopolitical dynamics.
Through evidence-based research, policy analysis, expert commentary, and strategic assessments, CASPAC seeks to provide timely insights for policymakers, academics, business leaders, and the wider policy community. By fostering informed dialogue and multidisciplinary research, we aim to deepen understanding of South Asia's evolving strategic landscape and its expanding role in shaping regional stability, connectivity, and global affairs.
